Superior Temperature Uniformity & Control for Precise Processing Requirements
When reducing and distilling titanium, the process starts with the material in a raw ore state (titanium tetrachloride). The ore is placed in a furnace retort and heated to a prescribed temperature. After a set length of time, magnesium chloride is piped into the furnace chamber. As this material reacts with the titanium tetrachloride, chloride and other impurities are separated (reduced) from the titanium. As the chemical reaction sublimes these elements, they are vented off (distilled) through the furnace exhaust system, leaving pure titanium behind. Zirconium reduction and distillation utilizes essentially the same process.
