In molybdenum and tungsten reduction processes, the material is placed in the furnace retort in powdered oxide form. The oxide powder is filled into boats or trays, placed into the furnace tubes, and pushed through the furnace. Hydrogen in the tube reduces the O₂ from the metal oxide, leaving only metal powder. The boats are then removed from the furnace tubes and emptied into a container for further processing. The entire process is automated.
